Being Canadian

I have to say that after watching the closing ceremonies and the great hockey game last night, I feel myself filled to my roll up the rim brim with Canadian pride. I have never been a fan of hockey but something deep in my Canadian being was stirred last night while watching us play for the gold. I've watched hockey before but never at home, rarely of my own volition and never from start to finish. It was exciting, awe inspiring, beautiful, tense and emotional all at the same time.

I'm not saying I'm not a patriotic person, as I am very proud to be living in the one of the greatest countries in the world, but I can't help but to have a massive surge of patriotism after these game have ended. Listening to Neil Young perform Long May You Run (my favorite Neil Young song btw) as they extinguished our flame actually made me tear up a little as I realized how much I truly love this country and all things Canadian. The Olympics have had their fair share of naysayers and protesters saying the money is better spent elsewhere, but at the end of the day how can you put a price on the patriotism and pride we are all feeling after showing the world how beautiful and great our country truly is? The answer is simply this: you can't. And I for one am better for it.
